A little about me ...
My name is Whitney and I live and teach in West Virginia. Before I was a teacher, I was a performer. So, I actually have a BFA in Musical Theatre. My husband and I met in college where we played husband and wife onstage before we were even dating! I substitute taught as a second job and eventually fell in love with it. I’m in my 5th year teaching full time. I've taught Third grade, Intellectual Disability Special Education, Fourth Grade and I am excited to return to my 5th grade classroom for the 2023-24 school year! Outside of school I am still a huge theatre lover and see musicals in D.C. regularly. I'm also a mom to my beautiful daughter, a "dog mom", and a BIG Disney fan!

Statement
Respect. Compassion. Faith. Growth. These words sum up my personal professional disposition. I will respect my students by treating them fairly and honoring the diversity they bring to my classroom. I will respect my colleagues by working closely with them to create a welcoming learning environment throughout our whole school community. I will respect myself and the teaching profession by showing up each day ready to do my very best. Compassion will be shown to my students through fairness as I use my best judgment to give them grace while avoiding a negative impact on their work ethic. My students will be allowed to learn from their mistakes with my guidance. I will have faith in my students that, even on their worst days, they can learn and achieve skills they do not currently have. Through self-reflection and evaluations, professional development, and continued education, I will work throughout my education career to ensure that I am growing as a teacher always.
In writing this personal professional disposition, the disposition assessment acted as a guide to help me determine which points stood out or felt the most important to me. There were not any that I disagreed with at all. However, there were a few that I knew I could grow given time and experience. I will continue to work with my administrators and professional learning community to work on these aspects of my teaching career.
The Moral Code of Ethics and the Grand Canyon Professional Dispositions were both critical in deciding upon the four words I chose to summarize my dispositions. My dispositions will help me meet high ethical expectations for my school, students, community, and teaching abilities. (National Association of State Directors of Education and Certification, 2023). Though I had many years of experience in education prior to starting my degree, I am thankful for the growth I have experienced throughout my graduate program. I have become more familiar with strategies to help my diverse learners, whether classified as special education or not. My confidence has grown in writing lesson plans and creating objectives influenced by state standards.
